Teaching & Training Skills

SkillsIn the second section of this portfolio I present four artifacts relevant to my teaching and training skills in adult education environments. First, an instructional design example is presented that I produced as a prototype for teaching Microsoft Excel online. Next, an example of a personalised and humanistic approach I have used for providing feedback to students is provided. Nested within this artifact is another example of how multimedia can be incorporated into online courses for supporting and reinforcing learning. Third, I present my Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate for PowerPoint version 2003 as an example of my technical abilities and proficiency in using Microsoft Office products. Finally, my Humber College Honours Diploma is showcased as a demonstration of my academic investments and commitment to life long learning.

June 2007

This is a lesson sample taken from a Microsoft Excel Basic course prototype I designed for online learners. The short lesson demonstrates my use of conversational style voice-over, animated examples with visual clues and user involvement for the purpose of teaching how to use the "AutoFill" feature in Microsoft Excel. This is one of many mini-lectures produced for the course prototype and is representative of my skills in developing multimedia learning objects. A link to the entire prototype is available from the Past Projects section of this web site. Audio is required to listen to this artifact.

June 2007

This artifact is taken from the Microsoft Excel Basic online course prototype I designed. This example demonstrates how I use screen-capture software to provide meaningful and personalized feedback to students that includes audio and visual elements. This approach was used to add a humanistic element to an online course, however, this method would also be very effective for any learning environment, be it online, in the classroom or blended. Within the audio feedback, I refer the student to watch a demonstration on how I would use the lessons learned in an efficient and effective way. You will find a link to this example nested at the bottom of this artifact. Audio is required to listen to this artifact.
